Source :Digitimes          update : 2010-09-03

About 600,000 LCD TVs were sold in the Taiwan market in the first half of 2010, growing on year by 10%, while ASPs dropped by 7%, according to industry sources.

Chimei remained the market leader with a 12.5% share, followed by BenQ with 10%, Sony with 9.9%, Teco with 9.6% and LG Electronics with 9.2%, the sources noted, saying that Sony remained number one in terms sales revenues.

Vendors are conservative about demand in the second half of the year and expect shipments to remain flat sequentially. As the Lunar New Year holidays in 2011 will come later than usual, year-end shopping will be delayed and fourth-quarter 2010 demand will be weaker than usual, the sources said.

Shipments in the third quarter are expected to increase by about 10% sequentially, the sources added.

The top-five vendors' total market share dropped to 56% in the first half of 2010 from 60% in the same period of 2009, the sources mentioned. Both first-tier and local vendors have dropped prices in order to boost their market shares.

The lineup of the top-five vendors may change in the second half of the year amid increasing popularity of LED-backlit and 3D TVs, the sources said.
