China saw the number of railway passengers increase 12.8% year on year to 160 million in July this year, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Railways yesterday.
The growth in railway passenger volume last month was a result of traditional peak season during summer holidays and the ongoing World Expo Shanghai 2010, said the Ministry.
In the first seven months of this year, the country's railway passenger volume totaled 976 million, said the ministry.
China, with the world's largest high-speed rail network, plans to invest RMB 800 billion to double its high-speed railway network to 13,000 kilometers by 2012, China Knowledge reported earlier.
