Source :China Knowledge          update : 2010-08-31
Trade between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations amounted to US$161 billion in the first seven months, up 49.6% year on year, the China Daily reported, citing Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming as saying.

ASEAN enjoyed US$7.54 billion of trade surplus.

The growth rate of ASEAN's export to China is much higher than that of its import from China, said Chen.

During the first seven months, ASEAN's exports to China reached US$84.27 billion, up 56.1% from a year earlier. Imports from China hit US$76.73 billion, up 43.2% year on year.

The bilateral trade was greatly boosted after the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area entered into force at the beginning of this year, said Chen, adding that the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area has proven to be mutually beneficial. China will continue to push the area and level of economic and trade cooperation with ASEAN.
