China sets GDP growth target at around 8% this year

The Chinese government has set the country's GDP growth at round 8% this year, sources reported.
The government has targeted a growth of about 3% in the consumer price index.
Premier Wen Jiabao said in his annual report to lawmakers that the government will maintain its active fiscal policy and moderately loose monetary policy. The government will also maintain the basic stability of the RMB exchange rate.
The Center for Forecasting Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said recently that China's GDP is likely to expand about 10% year on year in 2010.
The CAS predicted that the country's GDP will grow 11% in the first quarter and will experience a moderate slowdown in the remaining quarters. The GDP is expected to rise 10.2% in the second quarter, 10.2% in the third quarter and 9.8% in the fourth quarter.
