Asustek Computer ranked first in the third quarter in Taiwan's LCD monitor market with company record shipments of 140,000 units, a significant increase compared to 90,000 in the second quarter, amid strong demand from governmental procurement projects, according to industry sources.
The company is expected to ship about 100,000 LCD monitors in the fourth quarter, generating total shipments of over 400,000 units for 2009 in Taiwan, the sources added. Fourth-quarter shipments will drop because shipments for government projects have concluded, the sources said.
Asustek is estimated to supply 30% of the LCD monitors for the government projects in 2009, the sources noted.
In the second quarter, the top-five monitor vendors in the Taiwan market were Asustek, Acer, ViewSonic, Chimei and BenQ in terms of shipments, and total shipments in the second quarter in Taiwan were 360,000 units, according to IDC data.
The Taiwan monitor market will be about one million units in 2009, and about 1-1.1 million units with orders from governmental procurement projects, the sources said.
