Under the leadership of the State Council, or the cabinet, Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television have sped up the formulation of the pilot plan for integration of Internet, telecom and broadcast networks.
Dai Xiaohui, an inspector of the Department of Science and Technology of MIIT, said that MIIT will accelerate the deployment of FTTH (fiber to the home), enhance research, development and industrialization of new technologies and products of optical communication, draft the rules and standards for the optical communication sector, and promote the application of ubiquitous network, Internet of things, and sensor network.
Statistics show that the length of China's optical fiber lines has reached 8.59 million kilometers, and the user base of Internet users exceeded 380 million, including 110 million Internet broadband access users.
In April, seven of China's administrators including MIIT jointly rolled out the Measures on Promoting the Construction of Optical Fiber Broadband Network, saying that the nation will invest over 150 billion yuan in the optical fiber broadband network construction in five years, targeting at developing more than 50 million new broadband service subscribers.
China's telecom operator and television and broadcast enterprises will increase the investment in network construction, which will benefit manufacturers of fibers, cables, optical transmission equipment, access networks, routers, switches and business platforms, said an industrial insider.
