China Telecom to Launch BlackBerry Phones in Shanghai

China Telecom Corp. Ltd. (NYSE: CHA and SEHK: 0728) is set to launch China Telecom-versioned BlackBerry mobile phones in Shanghai, the financial hub of China, in mid this month.
There will be one type of product available at the initial period, revealed an insider of China Telecom Shanghai Branch. Notably, it will be available to corporate users only. In the second half of this year, the biggest Chinese fixed-line phone operator will roll out three other types of products in the municipality and they will be available to individual users, too.
In addition, it is reportedly to launch BlackBerry mobile phones in Beijing in the near future and related service will be also available to corporate users in the initial period only. China Telecom planned to roll out such mobile phones in February this year, however, due to technologies regarding to sending short messages in Chinese, it delayed the rollout.
