China Broadcast Corp, a subsidiary of the State Administration of Radio Film and Television, announced yesterday that China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting has begun operations in 280 cities of China, becoming the world's largest mobile TV network.
The Beijing-based company also said it will permit users to have six channels in China for free on their mobile terminals in the next three years.
Sun Zhaohui, general manager of China Broadcast, said the company will continue cooperating with the country’s largest telecom operator, China Mobile Ltd<0941><CHL>, and that it has plans to attract more than 10 million users this year.
CMMB, launched in 2008, has independently developed new mobile TV technology. With CMMB, users can watch TV on mobile terminals. Having built CMMB networks in 280 cities, China Broadcast will try to extend mobile TV networks to all Chinese cities except those in Xinjiang, Tibet and Qinghai.
